Frsky Q X7
« on: April 14, 2018, 09:49:19 PM »
I wish I'd never sold my stuff, now I want to get back into something and I'm thinking about a Micro helicopter to start with and probably a quad later on I'm just not sure which way I want to go. I'm looking at a few different options so I figured I'd throw it out there and see if anyone has used these and can give me some feedback. My funds are limited right now so cost is a concern.

First thing is this transmitter and module?

https://www.banggood.com/FrSky-ACCST-Taranis-Q-X7-Transmitter-2_4G-16CH-White-Black-International-Version-p-1196246.html?rmmds=category&cur_warehouse=CN

This would give me a lot of options but it's on the high end of what I have to spend.

I'm also looking at this transmitter, it's cheaper but it limits me.

The other option and the cheapest way to go with a quad would be a Flysky transmitter but that really limits me. If I decide to just get another quad I can do something like this.

These are the helicopters I'm looking at.

I'm really interested in the 6G mode of these helis, how much easier to fly than a standard gyro. Is it really suitable for a beginner or is it all hype. As most of you know I was into the HK450 heli and it was an exercise in futility. Then you guys turned me on to quads and I haven't looked back since but I really do have a love for helicopters. I have quite a bit of time in full size helicopters as well. Years ago when I closed my hobby shop I went to work for an air ag operation that used primarily Bell 47's and I became best friends and hunting buddies with one of the pilots who had his instructors rating. I made a deal with them for some flight time in the 47 thats when I fell in love with helicopters.  Anyway that's a long story and I don't want to bore you any more than I already but any feedback or opinions on any of these would be greatly appreciated cause I'm totality confused.

Well, I just ordered my new transmitter and battery. After a lot of research I decided to go with the Frsky Q-X7 from Getfpv. It has everything that I'll ever need and it's a Frsky which is familiar territory for me. I ordered the battery from Banggood because they had the LiPo battery with an extra pigtail to use for charging. One of the things I came across a couple of times was the fact that if you use the stock battery pack or the NiMh pack from Frsky there is a concern that since the plug for the transmitter battery is fastened to the motherboard that continuous plugging and unplugging will eventually cause the connector to break loose of the motherboard. I planned to splice a connector into the transmitter pack for charging but This battery already has a separate pigtail so taking the pack out constantly is not necessary, plus it's a LiPo so it will last longer. I want to build another 110mm quad like the one I built before because I liked the way that flew but most of the parts are back ordered so it's probably going to be a week or so till I'll be able to get them but that will give me time to play with my new toy.  :t2030:

Here is what I ordered.

Well, I got my new radio, super fast shipping and great price from GETFPV. I only wish they had the battery, I had to order that from Banggood and as much as I like them we know how long that shipping takes. The bad news here is I couldn't find the mount to attach my phone to my tripod so I couldn't do an unboxing video but I took some pictures. Here you go:

Excellant packaging:

Nice set of decals:

Had to use 6 AA batteries until I get my rechargeable pack:

My first impressions are it feels good in my hands which was something I was concerned about but I don't like the push button switch and I don't care for the sticks, they feel a little tight to me, I may look into the replacement sticks, I've seen them for like $25.00 but first I am going to order a micro quad, probably the QX95 since I don't know how long it will be until the parts are in stock for the 110 I want to build. In all I am happy with my decision to go with this Radio, I have Randy to thank in part for that. I'll try to find my camera mount so I can put out some videos.

Yes I did Dave and so far I like it other than the sticks. I plan on replacing them with the M7 Hall sensor gimbals when I can scrape up some extra scratch. In the meantime it works just fine.
