New 110 Micro Quad Build
« on: July 06, 2018, 07:37:46 PM »
I recently started a new Micro FPV quad build. I ordered the frame and motors from Banggood.com. The electronics are still on back order and should be in sometime in the near future, as soon as they are available I will update this build thread. The following is a list of parts either in stock or back ordered. This is not the frame I prefer but the one I really like is still on back order.

Frame:

OK, I came up with an idea on how to protect the wires on the bottom of the motors from wearing when landing on them. I had an old set of motor protectors I bought for my original QX80 but never used. I cut the mount loose from the rest and mounted them to the bottom of the motors. Then I cut a notch in the bottom for the wires and used some hot glue to protect the wires and the bottom of the motor. I hope this will work ok, we'll see.  :t2030:

This is the original motor protector:

This is the mount with the notch cut in it:

This is the mount with the hot glue, gives good protection and makes it easy to keep the quad level:

Well, I decided to transfer my receiver/flight control combo and FPV camera from my QX95 over to the new 110mm quad mainly because I like the Racestar motors and the "H" style frame but wouldn't you know it the damn plugs on the new motors are a hair bigger than the male plugs mounted on the board. If you look at the pictures I think you can see how minute the difference is but it's enough. Of course I screwed up and didn't check before I took everything apart and started putting it back together, that's when I noticed it. Who would have thought they would have 2 different size plugs on a micro like this, not me obviously. So now I have to cut the wires and splice them so I can fly this. On the other 110 I built I purchased the board with no plugs mounted and purchased the plugs separately so I knew they would match but now I have to jury rig this to get it to work, I'm pissed. I'm too tired to mess with it tonight so I guess this will be a project for another day. Anyway, here are some pictures, enjoy.

Here is the 110 frame with the electronics ready to go in:

Here is the frame with the electronics roughly mounted:

Pretty much buttoned up:

Just a hair difference:

Ready to go, did a terrible job splicing the motor wires but my hands are just too big for those tiny little wires but it works, we'll see how it flies later when I give it it's maiden.

Ready to go, top view:

OK, here is the maiden flight of my new 110 quad. Flies pretty nice, I do like those Racestar motors, they are really smooth and plenty of power.

Well, once again I changed my mind on the goggles. I went with a set that is more expensive but includes a DVR and they were on sale plus I got an additional discount. When I figured in the cost of the more inexpensive goggles and an external DVR I was looking at about $60.00 and these were $80.00 so I figure it's worth the extra with dual diversity and better antennas and DVR.

This is what I ordered:
https://us.banggood.com/Wholesale-Warehouse-Eachine-VR-D2-Pro-Upgraded-5-Inches-800480-40CH-5_8G-Diversity-FPV-Goggles-with-DVR-Lens-Adjustable-wp-Usa-1137808.html?rmmds=myorder

I also ordered a new FCB with OSD:
https://www.banggood.com/Eachine-AIOF3_BRUSHED-Flight-Control-Board-Built-in-OSD-FrskyFlyskyDSM2DSMX-Receiver-Betaflight-p-1107427.html?rmmds=myorder&ID=522764&cur_warehouse=CN

I also ordered another set of motors and I got the 1.25mm connectors for the FCB so the motors will be plug n play:
https://www.banggood.com/4X-Racerstar-8520-8_5x20mm-53500RPM-Coreless-Motor-Upgrade-for-Eachine-QX90-QX95-DIY-Micro-FPV-p-1114279.html?rmmds=myorder&cur_warehouse=CN

All I need is another FPV camera and I will have 2 quads. but only one will have OSD, but it will be a nice backup. Spent more than I planned but that's OK we'll just eat a lot of Ramen this month.

Wow, I got my goggles from Banggood.com already. I've never gotten anything from them in this short amount of time. Anyway, here is a short video unpacking and trying them out, sorry for the quality of the video I'll do a better one once I get the memory card. They seem to work great although the menu seems very convoluted but I'll figure it out. They are not bad, a little blurry but I was afraid of that but I think I can live with them. If nothing, they have the ability to mount to a tripod if I need to. The new FCB/Receiver I ordered is coming from China so with any luck it'll be here by Thanksgiving. So here is the video, enjoy.
